Artist Statement
My fibre art pieces are often more than is apparent at first glance. To interpret my subject, I explore the interaction of colours, textures, and materials. I then build layers,  stitching, adhering, cutting to reveal the character of the materials, then tucking, shaping, transforming, and embellishing to capture my subject's emotion, meaning and spirit.

Artistic Practice

Anne Warburton is a fibre artist and visionary. Her passion is to capture creative insights through her art. She works mostly in stitch on fabric, paper, and photographs, and embellishes with paint, metals or recycled and other materials. A love of colour, nature, and travel inspires much of her work visually. She has a love of learning, and continues to develop her art through experimentation and courses. Anne is artist-trained in the expressive arts therapies, event management, and learning facilitation.

Anne’s artistic journey has included studies in drawing, painting, coloured pencil techniques, bookbinding, embroidery, and the fibre arts through Ottawa School of Art, VACO, local stores, private lessons, and some self-taught. Her formal education includes event management, introductory expressive arts therapies, and learning facilitation.

Since retiring in 2011 from an event management career, Anne has focused on developing her skills in drawing, painting and, most recently, in the fibre arts.

Anne has worked with seniors creating coloured pencil art, and with children and young adults learning to draw and paint. She mentors emerging artists.  She has facilitated the creation of community art montages at local community events, and frequently demonstrates colour pencil and fibre art techniques. Anne chaired the Navan Fine Arts Exhibition & Sale for several years, and is an active member of the Out of the Box Fibre Artists. She founded Fibre 15 in 2019 to provide a local group of local fibre artists with an environment (now online) for creating, inspiration and sharing.
