Grow Your Blog - January 25, 2014

1/24/2014

I've been artistic all my life but it's only since I retired almost 3 years ago that I've really had the time to dedicate to doing creative activities. And I haven't looked back since.

I love to share what I'm working on and maybe even share a few techniques for others to try.
That's why I love to blog.

By making the commitment to blog (fairly regularly) it inspires me to keep learning and challenging myself. I love to see what others are working on - and I hope you like what you see here.

I love to make handmade books and mixed media art - incorporating thread drawings, or fabric, or coloured pencil or even acrylic into the pictures and the books. Taking art courses keeps me inspired too, plus teaching to kids and seniors - this too forces me to keep coming up with new ideas, some of which I've been able to share with others.

Enjoyed stopping by your blog today! I too create altered books and art journals. I took an art journaling e-course last spring and I was hooked! I like the fact that you still enjoy learning and you are taking the time to share what you have learned with others! I susbscribed to your blog via email.

Hi Diane - thanks for visiting. I haven't done any altered books yet - hopefully one day soon. Perhaps I should make that my next project. I saw you posted the cover of the Scientific magazine when it focused on creativity. It was such a fascinating read wasn't it.

So nice to meet you Anne ! I had a great time browsing through your blog. You and I have many things in common. The piece about painting with coffee was so interesting I will have to investigate that a bit more.

Thanks Judy. We had a great trip to Newfoundland in 2011 - I have so many photos and so many pieces from that trip I still want to work on. Looking at the photos of your art, I'm getting inspired to pull out those photos again and plan some pieces. There's one other piece - in the kid's classes section of my website, that was based on all the clotheslines we saw - I call this one Laundry Day.

I've often thought of trying to do an altered book, but haven't gotten around to it just yet. One day. Love your site, especially the embroidered portraits. They look wonderful.

Hoping myself to have some more creative time. Until then, I get to admire the work of crafters like yourself!

Sometimes 10 minutes a day is all that is needed just to get a little bit done. Sometimes that's all I have some days! Courses or workshops help until you can find more time. All the best!

I am dropping by, courtesy of Vicki and the GYB party! I am also a retiree who has never stopped trying to learn new things. Blogging, in and of itself, is an adventure in learning and we meet people and make new friends along the way.

My interests are varied and somewhat diverse and I am always thinking about a new project of some sort.

I will be linking up to follow your posts and I sincerely hope you can find a few moments to drop by my blog from time to time!

    About Me

It's taken years to discover the medium I enjoy the most. And how what I have learned before somehow fits into what I am doing now. Even when I travel my needles and threads are with me so I can continue to create while away.

It's been wonderful being able to share my work with others and to be a part of an artistic network that continues to grow and develop.

If you have ideas you would like to suggest, please let me know. And check back regularly to my web site for updates.
